
Making programming an accessible language!
Code: Future is an educational program to improve the digital skills of Bulgarian teachers, created by Nexo, the MindHub educational platform and the Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation.
WHY IS THIS PROGRAM IMPORTANT?
The mission of this initiative is to improve the quality of education in Bulgaria and help solve some of the pressing problems in our country:
According to Eurostat data from 2021, only 31% of Bulgarians between the ages of 16 and 74 possess basic digital skills. This ranks our country in last place in the EU.
UNICEF indicates that as of July 2022, 44.5% of Bulgarian youth between the ages of 15 and 24 do not have the necessary digital knowledge for professional development.
Only 40% of students cope in the new digital learning environment, according to an analysis by the Ministry of Education and Science.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
“Code: Future” is a practical training program, approved and accredited by the Ministry of Education and Science, for mastering the basics of programming, improving computer skills and online platforms. The program is free and open to teachers from preschool and school education from all over the country. During the 2022-2023 academic year, the initiative will provide professional and high-quality training to 210 teachers.
Each teacher receives:
- Three (3) qualification credits from the Ministry of Education and Science (in accordance with Appendix No. 14 of Regulation No. 15),
- Certificate of participation,
- Three-day face-to-face training (with accommodation provided) within 24 academic hours,
- Online seminars and independent project work within 14 academic hours,
- Feedback from specialists during the implementation of a final project,
- Opportunity to exchange good practices.
Participants will master basic digital skills, including:
- Working with a computer and digital devices – hardware and software,
- Working with files and MS Office,
- Basics of programming – algorithms, blocks, events in programming, working in programming environments, working with different interfaces, scripting language and animation,
- Working with Canva, Prezi and Kahoot,
- Communication in an online environment, safe internet and digital identity,
- Project-based approach in the classroom – integrating STEM learning content into projects,
- Design thinking and its application in the learning environment,
- How to make lessons more understandable and motivating for students with the help of technology.
DURATION
The training lasts a total of 13 days – three days (24 academic hours) of face-to-face training and 14 academic hours of online preparation.
The program takes place in the period November – December 2022.
