Rights and Values
In support of democracy, the rule of law and human rights

Strengthening the Role of Civil Society Organizations in Bulgaria in the Protection and Promotion of Fundamental European Rights and Values (ProEUvaluesBG), hereinafter referred to as the Rights and Values Project or the Project for short.

The project “Strengthening the role of civil society organizations in Bulgaria for the protection and promotion of fundamental European rights and values” (ProEUvaluesBG), hereinafter referred to as “Rights and Values”, is implemented in partnership by: the Open Society Institute – Sofia Foundation (OSI), the Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation (WCIF) and The European Citizen Action Service (ECAS), in Bulgarian: International NGO Association “European Citizen Action Service”“.

The project is implemented with the financial support of the European Union via the Program „Citizens, equality, rights and values“ (CERV) in the amount of 2 570 299 Euros, equivalent to 90% of the Project budget. The funding body is the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), under the powers delegated to it by the European Commission. The members of the consortium co-finance the implementation of the Project with 258 588 euro, equivalent to 10% of its total cost.

The implementation of the Rights and Values project started on 01.01.2023 and has a duration of 3 years.

Project objectives

To support the capacity and role of civil society organizations as key carriers and ambassadors of EU values, including the values of respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and human rights.

To contribute to raising public awareness of these values.

Within the framework of the Rights and Values project:

  1. Financial support for CSO initiatives via two funds:
  • Dejstvie/Action Fund: to support initiatives at national level for a total amount of EUR 800 000. The fund will be managed by the Open Society Institute – Sofia Foundation
  • Zaedno/Together Fund: for funding local initiatives totaling EUR 800 000. The fund is managed by the Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation“.
  1. Training program Guideline, aiming to support the conceptual and practical development and implementation of the initiatives under the two funds – Together and Action by sharing international experiences and presenting initiatives implemented by civil society organizations in other EU Member States.
  2. Information campaign promoting the themes of human dignity, equality between people, democracy, the rule of law and human rights among different communities in Bulgaria.
  3. Opportunities for networking and learning through specially organized meetings to share good practices of CSOs supported by the two funds.
