“Valya Krushkina – Journalism for the People” with a new format in its 15th edition

The competition “Valya Krushkina – Journalism for the People” opens its 15th edition with a new format. For the first time, all nominated journalistic materials will be evaluated together, regardless of the format and channel in which they are published.

The change reflects the way journalism is developing today. The boundaries between traditional formats are becoming more and more conventional, and a journalistic material can combine text, video, audio, photography and graphics.

Therefore, in the 15th edition, the current division of awards by journalistic categories is dropped. The first, second and third prizes “Valya Krushkina – Journalism for the People” will be awarded. The special award “Journalist-Hope” for young journalists up to the age of 28 inclusive will also be preserved.

Regardless of the change in format, the competition retains its main focus – to distinguish quality and engaged journalism on topics important to society. We are looking for journalistic materials that see the problems that are important to people, explore and analyze the causes, explain events, reveal the connections between them and give context. We are looking for journalism that asks the right questions. Journalism for the people.

Bulgarian journalists working for media in Bulgaria or abroad can participate in the competition. They can be nominated by third parties or self-nominated with up to two materials.

The application is done by filling out a nomination form. The application form and full application instructions are available here.

Nominations are sent to konkurs@frgi.bg until November 3, 2026, 17:00.

The awards named after Valya Krushkina are part of the activities of the Valya Krushkina Fund, established at the Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation on September 11, 2012. In the 14 editions of the competition so far, more than 670 journalists with more than 1500 materials have been nominated.
