CLARINET

CLARINET

Objective

The CLARINET project aims to raise awareness among EU citizens about the contribution of migrants to EU societies. On the one hand, the project aims to identify and promote good practices of local authorities in public communication campaigns on migration and integration at EU level. On the other hand, it aims to stimulate local authorities in border regions to run successful campaigns based on evidence and facts.

Problem

The CLARINET project addresses the problem of insufficient awareness and negative stereotypes among EU citizens about the contribution of migrants to society. The common lack of understanding and wrong perceptions of migration lead to hostility and division in society.

Activities

The project activities include:

  • Establishment of a “European Award for Public Communication Campaigns by Local Authorities on Migration and Integration”;
  • Preparation of a “Handbook of Positive Stories on Migration and Integration for Local Authorities”;
  • Development and implementation of 8 training programmes for local authorities to help them communicate issues related to integration and migration in the local context;
  • Creation of 8 artistic residencies in the respective territories;
  • Development and promotion of 8 communication campaigns on migration carried out by the participating local authorities.

Who is behind the initiative

The CLARINET project is led by the Municipality of Lampedusa and Linosa, which collaborates in a multi-stakeholder partnership with 7 other local authorities located in border areas (Border Regions), 9 civil society organisations (NGOs) based in 8 EU countries and 2 international networks. In Bulgaria, the project is implemented by the Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation (WCIF), in partnership with the Municipality of Burgas.

Results

The project succeeded in promoting at EU level good practices in conducting communication campaigns on issues related to migration and integration and in empowering border local authorities, including Bulgarian ones, to conduct effective public communication campaigns on migration and integration.
