Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation (WCIF) was established in 2001 with the mission to promote and support civic initiatives that lead to sustainable development of communities in Bulgaria. We believe in the values of transparency, accountability, dialogue, participation and partnership that guide our every action.
What we do:
- Provide funding: We provide financial support to civil society organisations and individuals to solve local problems and make a difference in their communities. The initiatives we support improve education, protect local nature, create a better living environment, preserve traditional intangible culture, provide social support to vulnerable people, work to overcome poverty, and support children and families. Our funding also focuses on active citizenship, supporting activities that create a democratic culture, respect for people’s rights, gender equality, media literacy and independent journalism.
- Developing philanthropy: the WCIF works with private donors and supports them in their philanthropic initiatives. The foundation establishes and manages its own funds with which we seek support for a variety of socially important causes, including the development of mathematics and informatics in Bulgaria through the Mathematics and Informatics Fund, independent journalism through the Valya Krushkina Fund, and the professional development of people in civil society organisations through the Tanya Kovacheva Fund.
- We support the building of knowledge and skills for CSOs: we offer training and technological resources to enable CSOs to work qualitatively for their causes. We are creating a network of organisations that are transparent and accountable and have adopted the Standards for Good Governance for CSOs that we have developed.

Tanya Kovacheva Fund – to support civil society activists and their organisations to continue to stand up for the most important social causes and solve the problems of their communities.
Mathematics and Computer Science Fund – to support mathematics and computer science students to develop their skills.
The Children’s Fund– to provide support to families with children in need, so that they can stay together through a difficult time.
