Nearly 150 children from 8 Bulgarian cities demonstrated knowledge, creativity and technical skills during two of the regional competitions under the Robotics for Bulgaria program, which took place on May 16, 2026 in Varna and Vidin.
The sea capital gathered 111 students, divided into 22 teams from schools in Varna, Dobrich, Razgrad, Shumen and Ruse. The competition was held in a spirit of friendly competition, and the participants impressed the jury with a high level of preparation, original ideas and projects aimed at solving real problems through technological solutions.
In Vidin , 34 children from 13 teams from Vidin, Lom and Montana competed. The competition was filled with the same enthusiasm, emotion and drive for innovation, which turn the program into an inspiring educational experience.
During the competitions, young researchers had to prove that their robots not only move, but can successfully perform various missions requiring technical skills, logical thinking and a non-standard approach.
But the competitions were much more than a demonstration of technology. They have become a real celebration of knowledge, creativity and team spirit. The atmosphere was charged with excitement, mutual support and the satisfaction that comes after months of hard work. Students and mentors together have proven that when they have the opportunity to create and experiment, the results can be impressive.
Two more regional competitions are coming up – in Plovdiv and Sofia, where the other participants in the program will participate. The best performers from the four regional competitions will meet at the final festival at the end of June in Sofia.
The regional competitions are an important part of the Robotics for Bulgaria program because they give students the opportunity to show what they have learned during the school year, encourage the exchange of experience between mentors and participants and build a strong community of students and teachers with an interest in science and technology.
The Robotics for Bulgaria program supports motivated teachers to create and develop robotics teams in their schools. It provides the necessary equipment, training for teachers and the opportunity for students to participate in robotics competitions.
Its main goal is to stimulate students’ interest in science and technology, targeting young people between the ages of 10 and 16, as well as their teachers.
The “Robotics for Bulgaria” program is an idea and initiative of the SAP Development Center in Bulgaria and is implemented in partnership with the Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation.
The program was launched in 2015 and has achieved significant scope so far. More than 70 school robotics teams have been supported, in which nearly 2900 students aged 10 to 16 and more than 260 teachers have participated. All of them are from 120 schools in 57 different settlements throughout the country.
