Rainbow Program

The Rainbow Program is implemented in the period 2015 – 2017. At the beginning of the program period, in 2015, the program supported 24 organizations from all over the country to work for the development of children and youth growing up in poor families from economically underdeveloped regions.

The program provided funding and expertise for the implementation of initiatives aimed at the social inclusion of children and youth from vulnerable groups, based on a systemic approach to the development of the child, his/her family and community; initiatives that recognize the abilities, interests and wishes of children and in which children participate actively and meaningfully.

The aim of the program is to build a safe, secure and healthy environment by improving the interaction between the family, the school and the local community and promoting responsible and positive parenting.

The key principles underpinning the program are: safeguarding children’s rights, child participation, non-discrimination, in the best interests of the child, respecting and building on strengths, sustainability, effectiveness and efficiency.

The 24 projects supported started in August 2015 and continue until August 2017. They were all selected after open call for proposals, that was implemented in 2015 in the period February – July in two stages. In the first stage – presentation of an idea proposal 118 organizations took part  from all over the country. For the second stage – presentation of a project proposal, were admitted 41 organizations from all that applied.

The Rainbow Program 2015-2017 is implemented by Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation with the financial support of the Velux Foundation.  By implementing the program at the national level, WCIF aims to create a critical mass of organizations and supporters who are united by the need to invest in child development, primary prevention and non-formal education.
