Together for LGBTI Rights in Bulgaria

Together for LGBTI Rights in Bulgaria

Objective

The project aims to raise awareness of the multiple forms of discrimination and prejudice faced by LGBTI people in Bulgaria.

Problem

Every day, LGBTI people face disregard for their rights and various forms of discrimination. The project “Together for LGBTI Rights in Bulgaria” is a response to this trend.

Activities

  • Raising awareness of the rights of LGBTI people among four main groups of people who play a crucial role in changing attitudes towards LGBTI people and their acceptance in society. These are teachers, politicians, business leaders, and civil society leaders. Nearly 1,500 representatives of the target audiences from across the country will participate in information seminars on the topic.
  • Organizing a large-scale campaign in support of the rights of LGBTI people with a focus on the stories of LGBTI people who have faced non-recognition of their rights.
  • Discussion of coordinated actions with representatives of different sectors in support of LGBTI rights during a closing conference.

Who is behind the initiative

The project is implemented by the Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation in partnership with five other Bulgarian organizations – Bulgarian Donors Forum, Bulgarian School of Politics “Dimitar Panitsa”, Trade Union “Education” at the Podkrepa Confederation of Trade Union, Voice of Bulgaria Foundation and Youth LGBT Organization “Action”. The project is co-financed by the European Union under the “Rights, Equality and Citizenship” program.
