Living Heritage

Living Heritage
Supports the preservation of the cultural tangible, intangible and natural heritage of Bulgaria.

The Living Heritage Program of the Fund with the same name is the longest-running program of WCIF.

The preservation and promotion of local cultural heritage, including in remote geographic areas of a country, is the best and long-term outcome achieved through project funding. The aim of the program again in 2013-2014 is to bring forgotten or little-known customs, traditions and rituals to the attention of the community by supporting local initiatives. An important step in achieving results is the way in which organizations manage to bring our cultural heritage up to date and attract young people.

In the framework of the 2013-2014 program, 164 organizations from all over the country applied and 21 were approved for funding. The total amount allocated by WCIF is BGN 76 678,32.

“Through the Living Heritage Program and the project that WCIF funded, we have restored traditional culinary skills. Apart from involving the older women in the village in the project activities, we also involved the young people. Through the Internet we promoted old recipes, songs and folklore from the local cultural heritage”, says Dimitrinka Getova, Secretary of the “Zora – 1990” Community Centre, at the village of Pobeda and leader of the project “The taste of childhood – bread, milk and song – for the ages”. Funded by the Living Heritage Programme 2013-2014.
