40 new teachers from 20 schools in 16 settlements in the country will become part of the 12th edition of the “Robotics for Bulgaria” program.
Half of the teachers who will receive support in the new edition of the program are from smaller settlements, including Topolitsa, Glavinitsa, Slivnitsa, Gorna Oryahovitsa and others. With them, the program will reach students from areas with limited access to educational resources.
The approved teachers will work in teams of two from one school, with the goal of creating and developing school robotics teams. Within the framework of the program, they will undergo an introductory online training for mentors and will receive six-month virtual support aimed at constructing and programming robots with LEGO Education SPIKE Prime, as well as preparing for the international format FIRST LEGO League.
The training also includes work on collecting and analyzing information for the development of research projects – a key element of the competition, which encourages critical thinking and work on real problems.
Each mentoring team will also receive equipment for working with a student team – a LEGO Education SPIKE Prime set and a competition field, which will support the practical preparation of students.
The newly formed school teams will have the opportunity to participate in the regional competitions of the program and in the final competition within the FIRST LEGO League.
The newly formed teams are expected to cover over 100 students from 5th to 10th grade. In them, students will not only develop an interest in science and technology, but also improve key skills for the future – leadership, teamwork and presentation skills.
Robotics for Bulgaria Program
The program supports motivated teachers to create and develop robotics teams in their schools. It provides the necessary equipment, training for teachers and the opportunity for students to participate in robotics competitions.
Its main goal is to stimulate students’ interest in science and technology, targeting young people between the ages of 10 and 16, as well as their teachers.
The “Robotics for Bulgaria” program is an idea and initiative of the SAP Development Center in Bulgaria and is implemented in partnership with the Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation.
The program was launched in 2015 and has achieved significant scope so far. More than 70 school robotics teams have been supported, in which nearly 2900 students aged 10 to 16 and more than 260 teachers have participated. All of them are from 120 schools in 57 different settlements throughout the country.
