Nearly 200 students from all over the country turned Plovdiv and Sofia into a stage of technological ideas, creativity and engineering thinking during the next regional competitions under the “Robotics for Bulgaria” program.
On May 30, 196 children from 38 teams in 21 schools showed how the knowledge gained during the school year can be turned into real solutions to real problems.
The competitions brought together young researchers from 14 settlements, who not only programmed and constructed robots, but also presented their own innovative projects. The participants impressed the jury with technical skills, confidence, teamwork and the ability to think like future inventors.
📍In Plovdiv, 93 students from 18 teams and 9 schools from Burgas, Kazanlak, Kardzhali, the village of Rozovo, Harmanli and Zlatograd competed. The atmosphere was filled with energy, curiosity and desire for development.
📍103 students from 20 teams and 12 schools from Blagoevgrad, Dolna Banya, Gabrovo, Kyustendil, Lovech, Pernik, Sandanski, Svishtov and Sofia took part in Sofia. The young talents demonstrated impressive knowledge and skills, proving that the interest in science and technology among Bulgarian students is growing.
The competitions in Plovdiv and Sofia are part of the national calendar of the “Robotics for Bulgaria” program. Earlier in May, regional competitions were held in Varna and Vidin, where nearly 150 students from 8 Bulgarian cities also demonstrated their talent and preparation.
Thus, this year, a total of about 350 students from 38 schools and 24 settlements in the country took part in the four regional competitions under the program – a clear sign of the growing interest in robotics, programming and science among adolescents.
The most anticipated stage of the competition is coming up – the national final in Sofia, which will be reached by the best performers in the four regional competitions.
The competitions are an important part of the Robotics for Bulgaria program because they give students the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge in a real environment, develop confidence and teamwork skills and be inspired by the achievements of their peers from all over the country.
The Robotics for Bulgaria program supports motivated teachers to create and develop robotics teams in their schools. It provides the necessary equipment, training for teachers and the opportunity for students to participate in robotics competitions.
Its main goal is to stimulate students’ interest in science and technology, targeting young people between the ages of 10 and 16, as well as their teachers.
The “Robotics for Bulgaria” program is an idea and initiative of the SAP Development Center in Bulgaria and is implemented in partnership with the Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation.
The program was launched in 2015 and has achieved significant scope so far. More than 70 school robotics teams have been supported, in which nearly 2900 students aged 10 to 16 and more than 260 teachers have participated. All of them are from 120 schools in 57 different settlements throughout the country.
